About Us
In the Beginning:
Heritage Bordeaux is a small home based show kennel located in Cincinnati, Ohio. We are dedicated to the raising and showing of the Dogue De Bordeaux aka the "French Mastiff". Our love for this breed started in 1989 like most people when we saw the movie Turner and Hooch. It would not be until 1999 that we would start our research on the breed and looking for the perfect one for us. The reason it took so long was because we lived in Okinawa, Japan and the weather there was just too hot for the breed. We did not get back to the US until May of 1999. Over the years we spoke with and visited many breeders throughout the United States and Europe. Finally on September 11, 2004 while Raymond was in Germany activated for Operation Iraqi Freedom he found a breeder that had just had a litter of pups. He then spent 11 weeks in Germany visiting the pups each week watching them grow and learning from the breeder. On December 1, 2004 our first dogue Chanie's Freedom Fighter Stella Di Mare made his way to the United States with Raymond in the cargo bay of a C-141 aircraft.
The Growing Years:
We feel that we have dogues in our possession that will be a great asset to this breed and it's limited gene pool of quality dogues. We do not believe in or take part in the willy-nilly breeding practices of just throwing dogues together and hoping for the best. We believe a proper breeding should be planned for success. Proper pedigree research is the key to a good breeding program. You should know what is behind your dogues before moving forward. We also believe that a good breeder is a breeder that shows their dogues. We will not recommend any breeder that does not show their dogues or at least attend shows themselves. How can you be a good breeder if you have no idea of how your breeding stock stacks up against others. Win, lose, or draw showing is about the futurity of the breed and allows breeders to see what their breeding programs lack as well as where their strong points may lay.
Where we're going:
We have spent countless dollars traveling to different countries in our quest for knowledge on this breed and feel that any reputable breeder that really has the true love of the breed at heart would at least attempt to do the same.
